PTE Core CLB 9: the score you need for maximum CRS points

CLB 9 is the level most competitive Express Entry profiles aim for, because it unlocks the maximum language points. In PTE Core that means Listening 82, Reading 78, Writing 88 and Speaking 84, with every skill hitting its own target.

What CLB 9 means in PTE Core

To reach CLB 9 you need at least Listening 82, Reading 78, Writing 88 and Speaking 84. These are per-skill minimums on the 10 to 90 scale. You do not get CLB 9 by averaging. IRCC reads each skill on its own and sets your official CLB from your lowest one, so all four scores must clear their target.

Why CLB 9 is worth chasing

CLB 9 gives you the maximum points for your first official language, and it also opens the skill transferability points that reward strong English alongside your education or work experience. For many applicants, moving from CLB 8 to CLB 9 is the single largest CRS gain still available to them, which can be the difference between an invitation and another draw of waiting.

The skill to watchWriting 88 sits at the very top of the scale, so Writing is usually the last skill to reach CLB 9. If three skills are there and Writing is stuck at CLB 8, your profile is CLB 8. Targeted Writing work is often the fastest way to close that final gap.

How to get there
