What the task is
An image appears on screen, and you describe it in your own words. It is a speaking task, so you are scored on content, oral fluency and pronunciation. You do not need to mention every small detail. You need a clear, steady description that shows you understood the main point of the image.
A template you can reuse
Using the same shape every time removes the panic of thinking on the spot.
- Open: say what the image is in one sentence, for example the type of chart and its topic.
- Body: give two or three clear points, such as the highest value, the lowest, or an obvious trend.
- Close: finish with a short summary sentence about the overall message.
Practise with variety
Work with different image types, such as bar charts, line graphs, maps and pictures, so the template becomes automatic. Time yourself so you can deliver a complete answer before the recording ends. For more on fluency, see our PTE Core Speaking tips.
